Turning Conversation Into Action.
Changing the way we understand recovery requires more than awareness.
Break Free combines education, community, resources, advocacy, harm reduction, prevention, and cultural programming to address stigma from multiple directions.
Education and Prevention
We create accessible opportunities to learn about substance use, mental health, disordered eating, co-occurring disorders, recovery, and harm reduction.
Programming may include educational webinars, community conversations, panels, workshops, digital resources, and collaborations with subject-matter experts and partner organizations.
Our goal is simple: give people information they can actually use.
Harm Reduction & Resources
We believe people deserve support wherever they are in their journey.
Break Free connects individuals and communities with resources and practical information that can reduce harm, increase safety, and make pathways to additional support easier to navigate.
We approach harm reduction without shame or judgment.
Community & Recovery
Recovery can be isolating. Community can change that.
Break Free creates opportunities for people impacted by substance use, mental health, disordered eating, and grief to connect in spaces centered around dignity and lived experience.
Our programming has included recovery support groups, grief support, LGBTQ+ programming, women's programming, meditation, movement, life-skills education, and recovery-focused webinars.
Access & Support
Financial, geographic, social, and systemic barriers can make behavioral health services difficult to access.
Break Free works with organizations and community partners to connect individuals with resources and opportunities for support.
Historically, this work has included partnerships with treatment providers and scholarship programs designed to expand access to substance use disorder treatment.
Culture as Advocacy
Culture shapes the way we see ourselves—and one another.
Break Free uses fashion, art, storytelling, media, and live experiences to bring conversations about recovery into spaces where they have historically been overlooked.
Our largest expression of this work is Recovery on the Runway, our twice-yearly New York Fashion Week runway showcase.
